The PC gamer magazine will feature a 2 page hands on preview of Far Cry 2 in it's upcoming August edition. The item will take you through the demo mission as was shown at the 2008 Ubidays. While we have read about this an awful lot already, there are a few new details and screenshots here and there that were not revealed before.
One of the things the item will shine more light on is what advantages and disadvantages the player will have when attacking an enemy encampment at night. Obviously at night visibility for you and your enemies (!) will be less then at daytime. To compensate the advantage of the cover of night Ubisoft has modified enemy behaviour in a way that this advantage is balanced with a daytime situation. Ubisoft would not want to have you play through the whole game at night time only. The game is far too beautiful for that. All we will say about this now is that you better think twice before bothering your enemy at night!

Far Cry 2 coming to Mac?
Shacknews reports that Ubisoft have entered into an agreement with Mac developer TransGaming to release Ubisoft-published games on Mac.
At this moment Ubisoft's pet simulators Catz and Dogz, along with a CSI-themed adventure called Hard Evidence are announced for Mac release.
Schacknews suggests that other Ubisoft PC games coming out soon could hit the Mac simultaneous as well, games like Far Cry 2 amongst others.
While it remains to be seen wheter or not this will be the case, the partnership will at the very least allow this to be an option.

Blog: Happy St. Jean Baptiste day!
Ubisoft wishes us a happy St. Jean Baptiste day today in the latest update to their blog. A happy St. What?! The St. Jean Baptiste day is a Canadian national holiday celebrating the province of Quebec. Erhm.... who cares!
Anyway Ubisoft has provided us with a little, well, tiny gift for this great day, by placing a new wallpaper on the blog. This wallpaper is not only designed for desktop but for your Blackberry and IPhone as well. Actually it is not really a new wallpaper but an old wallpaper refurbished in black and white. Anyways, enjoy!
Grab the new wallpaper in desktop, Blackberry and Iphone format here and read the latest blog entry here.

Far Cry 2 Playstation 3 preview
The guys over at Computerandvideogames were invited to the Ubisoft studios to have a look at how Far Cry 2 is advancing on the Playstation 3. The CVG team from the Playstation World Magazine came over to sit back and enjoy some Far Cry 2 on the Playstation 3.
As is the case with most previews we have seen so far, CVG cannot find enough ways to praise the game they get to play:
"Reach a significant vantage point in the game and you'll often find a convenient hang-glider, offering a gentle and picturesque ride above what will be known as one of gaming's most beautiful worlds. Zebras and gazelles scatter below, as the golden landscape rolls outwards towards the screen edges."
Important topic in the preview is the enemy AI. Clint Hocking, Far Cry 2's creative director, explains how the team has put a lot of energy in making the enemy as dynamic as the world itself. He clarifies that the AI is basically built around a number of needs instead of being programmed with a set of predifined actions:
"Artificial intelligences in the game will work around a system of needs: they've got a duty need (patrolling), a socialising need (chatting), and a rest need (sleeping) - and they spend their day fulfilling these needs as best they can."
These needs will allow the enemy to respond to all the possible situation they get tangled in during the game and keep thier behavious inpredictable.
The CVG team is clear in their conclusion about Far Cry 2:
"With a mix of scarily clever AI, dynamic storylines, and a huge world to explore, Far Cry 2 will be a smash."
